As we all know at this point, a powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck near the capital of Haiti, Tuesday afternoon, crippling this already impoverished island nation and knocking out most of its communication with the outside world. Alarming reports of mass destruction--a hospital was reported to have collapsed and people were heard screaming for help. Current reports estimated 3 million people in need of emergency aid, in the early Wednesday hours, aid groups and governments scrambled to send tons of disaster relief to the impoverished Caribbean nation. Part of the road to Canape Vert, a suburb of the city of Port-au-Prince, has collapsed, as have houses perched in the mountains of Petionville, where the quake was centered. Petionville, is a suburb some 10 miles up from downtown from Port-au-Prince Buildings, including a hospital, are said to have collapsed, and rescue efforts are under way. Local people were using anything they could get their hands on - including farm equipment - to help release those trapped in the quake.
